Soreness and Discomfort — we all experience them at some point in our lives; however, many people suffer more regularly or intensely. Whether you have occasional or situational muscle soreness, essential oils may be helpful.
Goals For Reducing Muscle Soreness
Goals for muscle soreness relief include decreasing duration, frequency and intensity. Whether your discomfort stems from athletics, sports, work, or for other reasons, the regular use of the following muscle discomfort relief protocol may help reduce the duration, frequency and intensity of your soreness when used on a consistent basis.
Muscle Discomfort Protocol
1. Make a rollerball blend of 15 drops each of Frankincense, Marjoram, Deep Blue and Copaiba Essential Oils and fill to the top with fractionated coconut oil (FCO). This rollerball blend may help support cartilage and joint function easing the soreness, and potentially gets to the root of the problem. Many of my customers report immediate relief after application! With continued use, soreness can often be eliminated and recurrences lessened.

2. Apply Deep Blue Rub to the affected area about 1 minute after applying the rollerball. This is called layering, and can drive the oils deeper into the muscles/tissues for more effective muscle discomfort relief. Deep Blue Rub is a blend of oils combined with a moisturizing lotion that offers a soothing and cooling effect and leaves your skin feeling soft (but not greasy).
3. For more serious, long-lasting or acute discomfort, adding in two supplements can be very beneficial.
**doTERRA’s Deep Blue Polyphenol Complex is a fast-acting nutritional extract containing powerful polyphenols shown to help support joint comfort and soothe achy muscles. There is a patent-pending on this amazing supplement due to it’s unique formulation of ginger, curcumin, resveratrol along with other polyphenols. Many of my customers have raved about this product, declaring it a game-changer!
**doTERRA’s Copaiba Softgels help support the nervous system system, which can help with discomfort of all types. It provides a soothing effect to sore muscles, nerves and joints. Copaiba is the essential oil often compared to CBD oil in that it works on the endocannabinoid system. There are many reasons I prefer Copaiba essential oil to CBD oil including price, potency, and purity. Copaiba Essential oil by doTERRA is CPTG, so you know that it is a pure, potent and safe product. With CBD oil it is buyer-beware; you often don’t know the amount of CBD in a product or that the product does not contain potentially harmful synthetics and/or fillers. CBD oil is also more expensive, and you need more of it to have an impact on the body. Copaiba softgels are an inexpensive and effective alternative that I love!
If you suffer from occasional or on-going soreness, discomfort or achy muscles, I hope you give this essential oil protocol a try and love it as much as I do. These products are incredible.
I use the rollerballs and Deep blue lotion with most all of my patients every visit. They’re very effective and last for hours. Great easy product to use.
The Copaiba is an incredible product that works like CBD oil. The great thing about Doterra’s product and this Copaiba is that it more pure, less expensive and helps reduce discomfort and increase vitality.

I have 3 herniated discs in my back and 1 in my neck. I honestly don’t know what I would do without my doTERRA essential oils. I don’t let my back stop me from living, I do live with chronic discomfort everyday but my oils along with exercises, sometimes physical therapy keep me going. I have a hobby farm so I can’t afford to be down. I use Deep Blue, Copaiba, Marjoram, Tumeric, frankincense along with supplements. These are my saving grace. Highly recommend looking into essential oils if you haven’t already.
Sue – thank you so much for sharing what works for you — I know it will help others. I am glad you have found some relief for your back with essential oils!
