Yoga is a mind and body practice of exercise that combined with aromatherapy can create a new sense of peace and purpose. Yoga has been around for over 5,000 years, and has gained popularity in the United States in recent years.  There are many different types of yoga, as well as a variety of yoga studio styles.  If you give one a try and don’t love it, I encourage you to keep trying various yoga studios until you find the right fit.

Aromatherapy And Yoga

Essential oils can be a useful yoga tool, and a great way to help you relax and unwind to get more out of your yoga session.  doTERRA developed a trio called The Yoga Collection that is designed to accompany and enhance your yoga practice.  This trio of blends is also great anywhere you wish to provide a relaxing environment (home, office or classroom).

doTERRA’s Yoga Collection

doTERRA’s Yoga collection is made up of Align, Anchor and Arise.  These blends were synergistically created to center, enlighten and steady your spirit with every breath.  They are delightful in a diffuser before and during your yoga session, and also great to use topically on your pulse points.  Each blend is sold separately or is offered discounted as a set of three.  The set comes in a beautiful box stenciled with this quote, “The body achieves what the mind believes” in gold letters.

Align

Align Centering Blend is a combination of Bergamot Fruit, Coriander Seed, Marjoram Leaf, Peppermint, Geranium, Basil, Rose, and Jasmine Flower essential oils in a base of FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil).  This blend promotes feelings of fluidity, self-acceptance and trust, while encouraging harmony and calm progress.  Ideal yoga poses to try with Align include Gate, Triangle and Warrior II.  Try this beautiful blend when you want to believe in your self-worth and trust in yourself.  My husband, a doctor of chiropractic, also believes Align helps you hold your body’s alignment and keep chiropractic adjustments longer.

Anchor

Anchor Steadying Blend is comprised of Lavender, Cedarwood, Frankincense, Cinnamon Bark, Sandalwood, Black Pepper and Patchouli Essential Oils in a base of FCO.  This blend promotes feelings of calmness, completeness and courage.  It encourages a steady foundation and allows you to move forward.  Anchor supports your connection to not only yourself (physical and emotional self), but also your community.  It encourages your innate sense of wisdom and allows a frim trust in yourself to approach your life and your yoga practice with calming strength.  Pair Anchor with Bhu Mudra, Seated Meditation, and Seated Twist yoga poses.

Arise

Arise Enlightening Blend combines Lemon Peel, Grapefruit Peel, Siberian Fir, Osmanthus Flower and Melissa Leaf Essential Oils in FCO.  It is described as having a sweet, bright citrus and floral scent thus encouraging feelings of clarity, courage and happiness.  In addition to enhancing your yoga practice, use this oil when you want to achieve goals and improve performance in any area of your life.  Anytime you are challenging yourself, Arise is great to apply topically (to temples, wrists and back of neck) or to diffuse.  Arise is perfect for Arms High, Standing Side Stretch, Standing and Half Moon poses.

Yoga Mat Spray

Keeping your yoga mat clean is important, and I like to use my own homemade spray with essential oils.  It is effective, smells wonderful and contains no toxic or harmful ingredients.  Commercial sprays often contain synthetics and fillers that don’t agree with me, and also shorten the life of my yoga mat.  Combine a few drops of Lavender and Tea Tree Oil with some Witch Hazel and water (this recipe shows distilled water, but I simply use tap water).

Have you tried the yoga collection of oils from doTERRA?  If so, which is your favorite?
