Fall is such a refreshing time of year, and most of us love that harvest, fall, pumpkin scent. Many fall scents are synthetic or artificial, and while they smell good, are not very good for us. Don’t despair – you can still get that beautiful fall scent, and I will show you some healthy options that will leave your house smelling crisp like fall, and will offer health benefits, too!
Harvest Spice Healthy Scent For Your Home
Harvest Spice is a blend from doTERRA combining Cassia, Cedarwood, Cinnamon Bark, Clove, Eucalyptus and Nutmeg Essential Oils. This warm blend is comforting, uplifting, and soothing all at the same time. I like to diffuse it daily this time of year. It leaves my house smelling like fall, while cleaning the air and uplifting my mood. Harvest Spice is great to diffuse at family gatherings or fall parties. This blend is only available for a limited time, so grab it quick if you are interested!
Homemade cleaning products are another way I like to get the fall scent into our home. Cleaning products have always contained scents, and many of us associated the ammonia/vinegar scent with a clean home. However, commercial cleaning products often contain toxins that are harmful to our bodies, so that scent we associate with a clean home is actually harmful to our families.
When I began using essential oils, I simply wanted to boost my son’s immune system. I have since learned about the harmful effects of toxins and specifically, fragrances to our bodies. Using doTERRA’s monthly ordering system called Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP) has allowed me to make over many products in our home with healthier, toxin-free options in an affordable way. I now make all of my own cleaning products using doTERRA essential oils, vinegar, Castille Soap, and water. I always have the ingredients on hand, so never run out, and it ends up being less expensive than purchasing ready-made, commercial cleaning products. My home is healthier AND I save money!
DIY Cleaning Products
doTERRA’s OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate makes it easy. I am not much of a measurer, which is probablywhy I like to cook but not bake, so my cleaning products tend to be guestimates. I add a few drops of OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate to a glass bottle filled with about 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water. Next I add 10-15 drops of essential oil and a splash of Castille Soap. This recipe is great for cleaning just about everything! In the fall, I like to add a few drops of Harvest Spice and Wild Orange Essential Oils to this recipe. It leaves my house clean, sparkling and smelling like fall.
One of the things I love about using OnGuard Cleaner Concentrate is the warning label. It says that if this product is accidentally ingested to “drink lots of water”. It does not say call poison control or go to the ER like most commercial cleaning products (because they contain toxins). This product is very effective at killing germs, yet does not contain any harmful ingredients for humans. I LOVE this safe option for “Green Cleaning” in our home. OnGuard essential oil is another oil I like to diffuse in the fall and over the winter holidays. It also has that delightful fall scent, and is known to support a healthy immune system.
Healthy Hand Soap
Another item we have replaced with healthier options is our hand soap and hand sanitizer. doTERRA makes that easy with two products, OnGuard Foaming Hand Soap and OnGuard Hand Sanitizing Mist. These two products are effective, inexpensive, toxin-free and smell delightful. My husband and son also use the OnGuard Foaming Hand Soap as a healthy alternative to shaving cream. If you want to scent your hand soap for fall, add a couple of drops of Harvest Spice and Wild Orange Essential oils to these two products. Google hidden dangers of hand sanitizers, and you will definitely want to make this healthy switch! We also use the hand sanitizing mist on grocery carts and airplane tray tables, etc.
My last two tips for today are for your bathroom. In a 2 oz glass spray bottle, add about 10 drops of Harvest Spice and 5 drops of Wild Orange Essential oils, 1 Tablespoon of Organic Witch Hazel and fill to the top with water. Keep this in your bathroom for a healthy “Poopouri” Spray. I also add a drop of Harvest Spice and Wild Orange to the inside of our toilet paper rolls. This acts as a natural diffuser each time someone uses the roll.
Fall is one of my favorite times of year, and I love the warm scents of fall. I hope you have found these tips useful, and that you adopt one or two of my ideas for a healthy, fall-scented home. Do you have any healthy fall tips? Feel free to share them in the comments.
