doTERRA’s Frankincense essential oil is special, and you will know this from the first whiff from the bottle! It is a blend of four strains of resin from carterii, sacra, papyrifera, and frereana Boswellia trees. doTERRA sources their Frankincense from northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, and the resins collected are believed to be from the world’s oldest known supply chain.
The History Of Frankincense
Frankincense has been used and documented throughout history. and is often cited in the New Testament of the Bible. Historically, Frankincense was burned in religious ceremonies by the Babylonians and Assyrians and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for just about everything including perfume, salves and for soothing skin. Frankincense is known at “the king of oils” and one of the “gifts to baby Jesus”, and this rich history is only one of the reasons it’s precious to me.
Aromatic Use of Frankincense
Frankincense is one of the first oils I used to support Danny’s immune system and to support healthy cells. While I started using it for more physical health supports, I quickly discovered I loved the emotional benefits of Frankincense, too. We often diffuse Frankincense paired with lavender for a restful night’s sleep. The trio of Frankincense, Peppermint and Wild Orange in the day is delightful and energizing. Frankincense is wonderful for calming your emotions, and is great paired with a citrus oil on diffuser jewelry to help you feel calm and uplifted at the same time.
Internal Use of Frankincense
I start my morning with 1 drop of Frankincense and 2 drops of Lemon essential oil in a glass of water. I began this to help cleanse my body and promote a healthy immune system and healthy cells. What I discovered is that I no longer had discomfort from drinking coffee. I’ve started my morning with this routine for over 5 years now. Frankincense is not delicious on it’s own in water, but I do enjoy it paired with a citrus oil.
A “Thumbprint” of Frankincense can also be helpful. Place a drop of Frank on your thumb, and press and hold to the roof of your mouth for 1 minute. This can be helpful at the first sign of head soreness or uneasy feelings. You can also simply put a drop under your tongue, hold it there 1 minute and then swallow.
Topical Use of Frankincense
We use Frankincense topically, also. It is a gentle oil and does not require diluting unless you have sensitive skin (or for children, the elderly and pets). I like to make a rollerball blend with 15 drops OnGuard, 15 drops Lemon, 10 drops Frankincense and 10 drops Tea Tree diluted with FCO to support a healthy immune system. We set this roller out at the breakfast table, and all apply to the bottoms of our feet before breakfast.
Frankincense For Your Skin
Frankincense is also wonderful for your skin. I like to use it to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections. Simply add a drop to your favorite moisturizer. I also like doTERRA’s Frankincense Touch roller for my face. It’s easy to bring with me, and convenient because I don’t have to dilute it. I also like the blends DDR Prime and Immortelle for my skin, and both of these blends also contain Frankincense.
There are SO many ways to use doTERRA’s Frankincense, and it truly is one of my favorite essential oils. If you have a favorite way you use Frankincense, please drop it in the comments.
